Delay to ISO 45001 Occupational Health and Safety standard

The highly anticipated ISO 45001 international standard for Occupational Health and Safety Management Systems, originally due out in October 2016, has been delayed.

The national bodies which make up the ISO committee voted 71% for the draft international standard (DIS) and 28% against. A minimum of 75% for the draft is required for it to pass. As a result, the feedback will be reviewed and a new draft issued to address the concerns raised.

The standard is now likely to be released in early 2017. ISO 45001 replaces the British OHSAS 18001 standard with a truly international standard. Following publication of ISO 45001, you will have a 2-3 year transition period to migrate to this new standard.
