Timetable for ISO 14001: 2026
The new ISO 14001:2026 Environmental Management Standard was officially published on April 15th 2026.
The good news – the changes are moderate. The new version retains the core structure but reinforces environmental requirements (e.g. climate change and life cycle perspectives), leadership accountability and stakeholder expectations.
Certified organisations will need to move to the new standard within the timeframe set by their certification cycle (typically 3 years).
Three years sounds far off. But you will need to ensure your management system aligns with the new requirements, engage with suppliers, retrain staff and update internal audits. The key milestones for transitioning to ISO 14001:2026 are shown above.
