Transitioning to ISO 45001: 2018
The new international Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems standard ISO 45001 was published in March 2018. Following the top level “Annex-SL” structure, it has been designed to easily integrate with other management systems such as ISO 9001 and ISO 14001.
ISO 45001 replaces the existing OHSAS 18001 standard. Changes to the standard include a much stronger role for leadership and worker participation. OHSAS 18001 certificates will expire on 12th March 2021. All companies operating OHSAS 18001 will therefore need to start preparing for the transition as soon as possible as half of the transition period has already expired.
